Description University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is a Public Higher Education Institution and a juristic person established in terms of, and regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act No. 101 of 1997) and as amended by the Higher Education amendment Act (Act No. 9 of 2016), for purposes of teaching and learning, research and community engagement. The University of KwaZulu-Natal operates in accordance with its Institutional Statute, as published in Government Gazette No. 29032 dated 14 July 2006. The seat of the University of KwaZulu-Natal is in Durban (Westville campus) and the University comprises the following campuses;  Westville Campus – University Road, Westville, Durban  Howard College Campus – Mazisi Kunene Road, Glenwood, Durban  Medical School Campus – Umbilo Road, Congella, Durban  Edgewood Campus – Marianhill Road, Pinetown, Durban  Pietermaritzburg Campus – King Edward Avenue, Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg In terms of the Higher Education Act, the University of KwaZulu-Natal is subject to the rules for the approval, accreditation and registration of its academic qualifications and programmes as determined by the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Council on Higher Education and the South African Qualifications Authority. The University maintains a Programme and Qualifications Mix matrix which contains the details of all its approved qualifications and programmes as recorded in its Handbooks. Only qualifications and programmes that are recorded on the University’s approved Programme and Qualifications Mix are offered to students. The official language of instruction of the University, except in specific language modules, is English.
