| Description | Lutheran World Service India (LWSI), as a country program of the Lutheran World Federation/Department for World Service, Geneva, started its operation to respond to the immediate need of the refugees of the Bangladesh Independence war in the year 1974. Later, at the request of the government of India, it extended its area of operation in different states of the country, both in the emergency and development sectors. In 2008, LWSI got registered as Lutheran World Service India Trust (LWSIT), thus changing our identity from a country program of LWF/DWS, Geneva, to a national organisation of India. The overall development goal of LWSIT is to empower men, women, and children of disadvantaged communities to enhance their quality of life through community-based approaches for sustainable livelihood, disaster risk reduction, and food and human security. Currently, we are operational in the states of Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal, engaged in both community development and linking relief and rehabilitation to development projects. LWSIT is a network member of ACT Alliance, AZEECON and CHS Alliance to build on various programs and institutional relationships. Besides, considering the credibility of LWSIT as an NGO in the country, several Government-funded projects are awarded for implementation. |
