| Description | Established in 2009, the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies (CHRIPS) generates policy-relevant knowledge on governance, human rights, and security across Africa. CHRIPS was registered in Kenya in 2009 as a non-governmental organisation. It emerged in response to the urgent need for independent, African-led institutions that could strengthen the region’s knowledge infrastructure and generate policy-relevant research on human rights, governance, and security. From the beginning, CHRIPS committed itself to bridging academic inquiry and practical policy solutions, positioning itself as an innovative and independent think tank dedicated to advancing human rights and social justice. Governed by a board of distinguished experts, it has built a diversified portfolio of international funders — including OSF, IDRC, GIZ, GCERF, USAID (via Mercy Corps), and ICNL — and managed multi-year programmes in excess of USD 1 million, with established financial, grants, and audit systems (QuickBooks, a dedicated Grants Manager, a finance and procurement policy revised in 2026). |
